Academic Technologies (AT)
Event Services platform Mazévo is now live. The Mazévo platform, recently adopted by Event Services, is used by growing numbers of campus venue operators and will provide a familiar interface for managing space requests. Mazévo will allow users to check availability, choose rooms, and modify reservations, providing more user engagement and visibility.
Kane Hall classroom AV upgrades. Kane Hall’s AV upgrades were completed in September. A vital hub for classes and events, Kane Hall will benefit from the latest enhancements, including the integration of advanced Crestron NVX control systems, which will provide seamless, high-quality video distribution and ensure a superior experience for all users.
ASA-Information Systems (ASA-IS)
New high-performance server for computational research. ASA-IS is setting up a new high-performance processing server for computational research for the Biomedical Informatics department (BIME). It is the most powerful system we support to date. This system will be used for a new research project in collaboration with the University of Minnesota.
ASA-IS revamps Execute Office website and workflows. In partnership with the Executive Office, ASA-IS has recently overhauled their web presence, online forms, and ticketing systems to support new unit divisions and updated workflow processes.
Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL)
“Course Redesign Clinic” supports instructors of large classes. With support from the Provost, CTL partnered with Learning Technologies and Continuum College to help faculty engage students more effectively in large classes. One professor noted, “I have been wanting to restructure this course for some time…it was helpful to have a team of people take me through a strategic process.”
CTL welcomes new faculty into the UW teaching community. Over 2 days in September, CTL welcomed 74 new UW faculty in person and 101 on Zoom in its “Teaching@UW: Strategies, Resources, and Connections for New UW Faculty” program. One instructor noted, “I left feeling like I connected with the community and have the support I need to succeed.”
International Student Services (ISS)
ISS welcomes international students to campus. International Student Services welcomed over 2,500 new international students and supported the return of 5,000 continuing students this autumn. We appreciate our campus partners’ collaboration in ensuring a smooth transition and successful start to the academic year.Office of Student Financial Aid

Student Financial Aid staff survive FAFSA simplification! Over the past several months, financial aid staff have worked tirelessly to respond to countless changes, glitches, and delays associated with the new FAFSA application system. Throughout, we have kept our mission of access in focus. We were thrilled to invite new students to campus this Autumn.
The Veterans Education Benefits (VEBO) staff welcomes new students. The VEBO office serves current service members, veterans, and their dependents. VEBO geared up for autumn quarter by providing advising on residency and funding options, from VA education benefits and state waivers to financial aid and scholarships.
Office of the University Registrar (OUR)
New scholastic regulations based on faculty policy changes:
- Period 1 Registration Dates have changed. Beginning Thursday, October 31, 2024 for Winter 2025 Registration, there will be new priority groups.
- Undergraduate Scholastic Academic Standing Terms on the transcript have changed effective Summer 2024.
- Incomplete grades assigned to undergraduate students in Autumn 2024 and after will be removed from the transcript after the following quarter.
- Beginning Autumn 2024, courses that were previously listed in the transcript as “S” for Service Learning will be listed as ‘E” for Community Engaged Learning.
Strategic Initiatives
The Future of Teaching and Learning report and recommendations. The Future of Teaching and Learning working group on instructional quality completed a two-year-long effort to develop a set of core elements of effective teaching. The final report includes recommendations for how UW can align instructional support and evaluation around these elements.
Forming a Teaching@UW instructional support network. The collaboration that created the Teaching@UW website will be formally charged to provide instructors with coordinated tri-campus instructional support resources, reducing duplication of effort. The network includes a leadership committee, advisory council, and executive sponsors.
